Physio's File
I would like to help answer some questions fans have been asking me recently regarding our injury situation at present.
The two main questions are why players are started when they may have tight muscles and why do players get injured in training?
We are now 47 games into the season so obviously this period is one where we pick up injuries.
The journey up to Oldham in Easter traffic to play on a very dry pitch and then back down to face Luton 48 hours later also took its toll.
Lewis Grabban joined the squad to play Luton as although he had suffered from tightness in the week before, he had passed a fitness test and had also trained fully and reported feeling very strong. Before the Luton match Robbo, Rhys and Jay were suffering from hip, hamstring and back tightness respectively and were receiving 11th hour treatment but were passed fit to play along with Lewis by myself.
Players will freely tell you that after the age of 18 they never start a match feeling 100% symptom free.
Therefore although these players felt tightness they all started and wanted to start. Lewis felt a spasm during a sprint and was withdrawn. A scan has revealed a very minor tear in his upper hamstring. We fully expect him to play again this season.
Andy Frampton was injured in training last week. He is a full blooded player who like the rest of the squad trains at the same intensity he plays.
His knee injury came during a block tackle and we hope to have him back for the Gillingham match. It can be argued that half-hearted players that hold back during training rarely get injured.
The other injured players are progressing well. Gary Alexander is working hard in the pool and Alan Dunne has started jogging. We hope to have a few faces available for selection for the Gillingham clash.
Thanks to the fans who have taken a keen interest in the medical department. I hope to be able to answer your questions as often as possible.
Bobby
