Kenny Jackett may have been appointed Millwall's new manager - but caretaker bosses Richard Shaw and Colin West were given a rousing send-off in their last game in charge as their patched up side secured a valuable home point against high-flying Swansea City.
Former Watford boss Jackett officially takes charge at The Den from tomorrow, and he - along with Lions fans - will be able to take great heart from a battling performance that belied Millwall's lowly League One position.
The Lions started with an incredible 12 senior players ruled out through injury, with Neil Harris, Ben May and Danny Senda the latest casualties on a seemingly never-ending injury list at The Den.
But tremendous credit should go to the collection of youngsters, loan signings and fit senior players who dug deep and battled for all their might against a strong, physical and vastly more experienced Swansea side.
Nothing emphasised that point more than the midfield area where The Lions engineroom quartet of Jay Simpson, Jamie O'Hara, Bryan Hodge and Ali Fuseini had a combined total of just 16 first team appearances between them this season - and less than 45 throughout their careers in total.
It was Millwall who answered the call of caretaker managers Shaw and West to start with more tempo than Saturday, and they did just that, snapping, harrying and making it difficult for the high-flying Swans to settle.
Hodge had an eighth minute drive well held by Dorus de Vries in the visiting goal, but it was Swansea who scored with their first real attack of the game on 18 minutes when Jason Scotland slotted home after Lenny Pidgeley could only parry Thomas Butler's shot.
Thereafter it was Millwall who looked most likely to score and Ahmet Brkovic was denied by a brilliant tip-over from De Vries following a slick move involving Jamie O'Hara and Hodge.
Simpson's left-foot effort was held by the Swans keeper as The Lions continued to press, but it looked as if the home side's chances of getting back into the match were hampered when Richard Shaw hobbled off with a groin injury on 34 minutes.
In fact it was Shaw's replacement Zak Whitbread who hauled Millwall level on 58 minutes when he rose above his marker to net his first ever senior goal for the club with a powerful header from O'Hara's pinpoint corner.
Although the home crowd of 6,750 might have been The Lions' lowest League One attendance of the season, the roar that greeted Whitbread's equaliser was matched 10 minutes later when Dennis Lawrence was penalised for handling in the area.
Cometh the hour, cometh the man in the shape of Alan Dunne, who strode purposefully forward to pick up the ball and place it on the spot.
Despite the gamesmanship of Swans keeper De Vries, who did his best to put the right-back off, there was only one thing on Dunne's mind - and he dutifully blasted The Lions into a 2-1 lead with an unstoppable stop kick into the roof of the net.
Unfortunately that lead lasted just eight minutes and a swift move down the right ended with Paul Anderson sweeping the ball home from 12 yards.
Millwall's battlers could have lost heart, but simply regrouped and twice nearly snatched victory in the final five minutes.
Ali Fuseini came within a whisker of scoring his first senior goal with a rasping drive that was somehow cleared by the feet of De Vries.
Then deep into injury-time Gary Alexander was left despairing after sending a free header from Simpson's superb cross a foot wide with the goal at his mercy.
Referee Rob Shoebridge - who was superb throughout - blew his whistle seconds later after what was, given the circumstances, one of the gutsiest Millwall displays for a long, long time.
