Luke Beckett bagged a second-half brace as Huddersfield boss Andy Ritchie celebrated his first home game in charge at the Galphram Stadium with an emphatic win against Millwall.
It had all started so brightly for Willie Donachie's men as the visitors raced into a ninth-minute lead through Darren Byfield and totally dominated the early proceedings.
But once Michael Collins had levelled for Huddersfield with their first attack of the game on 20 minutes, the writing was on the wall for The Lions as they conceded three second-half goals.
In a lively opening, the tackles were flying in thick and fast, with both Tony Craig and Alan Dunne on the receiving end of crunching challenges that saw Collins quite rightly enter the referee's book.
The early exchanges were dominated by Millwall and a slick break on five minutes saw Neil Harris and Chris Hackett combine to set up Alan Dunne, but the midfielder's rising drive flew over the bar.
Byfield twisted and turned his way into the area a minute later, only to be crowded out by the home defence.
However The Lions pressure finally paid off with nine minutes gone. Dave Brammer swung over a corner from the right, and although Paul Robinson was unable to connect cleanly with the ball, it dropped kindly for Byfield who hooked into the top left corner from barely four yards.
That should have been the green light for Millwall to go on and add to their tally against a ponderous-looking Town defence that relied heavily on the expertise of experienced campaigner Frank Sinclair.
The former Chelsea man became the second of three home players booked in the first half with a late 18th-minute lunge that sent Ryan Smith sprawling as the youngster threatened to sprint clear on goal.
Within 60 seconds it was Huddersfield who launched their first attack on the visiting goal, unfortunately resulting in an equalising goal when Collins slipped between Robinson and Shaw to drill home from the edge of the area.
That gave previous lacklustre Terriers the impetus to push forward - and that's just what they did as the game - and Millwall's defence - started to open up.
Lions keeper Lenny Pidgeley came to the rescue with a breathtaking 32nd-minute save, stretching to somehow divert Gary Taylor-Fletcher's looping goalbound header onto the bar before Craig thumped the ball clear.
Craig then timed his tackle superbly to nick the ball off Gary Taylor-Fletcher as he wriggled clear in the danger zone just before the break.
Huddersfield came out at the start of the second-half with all guns blazing, forcing three corners in the opening five minutes.
Lions boss Donachie tried to thwart their increasing threat by replacing Hackett with Marvin Elliott, but within two minutes of the change Town were ahead; Beckett's lob was brilliantly cleared off the line by Robinson, only for Mark Hudson to slam the loose ball into the roof of the net from six yards.
Less than 60 seconds later Collins nearly added a third when his header smacked the underside of the bar following a Joe Skarz corner.
Huddersfield continued to pose a threat, although were rather fortunate to be awarded a 73rd-minute penalty when Danny Senda clearly got a piece of the ball as he challenged Hudson.
Senda was shown a yellow card by referee Deadman - but the real damage came when Beckett stepped up to fire home the resulting spot-kick and effectively kill off Millwall's hopes of getting anything from the game.
Beckett bagged his second - and Town's fourth - of the match 11 minutes from time, latching onto Jonathan Worthington's weighted pass before slotting home his 16th goal of the season.
A brilliant covering tackle by Alan Dunne prevented Hudson from piling on further misery after 82 minutes as Town threatened once again, but six minutes later the home side were reduced to 10 men when Collins tarnished an otherwise impressive display by foolishly getting involved after Smith had been penalised for a foul on Taylor-Fletcher.
Millwall took advantage of their extra man and in the 90th-minute Dunne was on hand to sweep home his thrid goal in two goals following good work from Smith on the right.
Sadly, it was too little too late and even though there were four further minutes of injury-time, the damage had already been done.
