Phil joined Millwall from non league Epsom and Ewell in 1975.He played in the Millwall side that won promotion to Division 2 in 1976.He formed a formidable midfield partnership with Terry Brisley and was at his best when Millwall won the last 6 matches in the 1977-78 season to narrowly avoid relegation. He was a hard tackling ball winner and loved to get forward into the penalty area looking for an opportunity to score with a header or put in a shot at goal. He had good passing skills and a turn of pace that left |
many defenders in trouble.
