George Fisher

Local lad GGeorge Fishereorge Fisher signed for Millwall during the 1942/3 season, after
being spotted playing for the ATC by Bill Voisey, the
Lions manager at a time when the club were developing
their own junior players for the post-war era. Fisher was
an identical twin and his brother, Jack, also signed for
Millwall. But it was George who was the more
successful footballer. He served in the RAF for four years,
two of which were spent in Italy, and represented the
RAF soccer team. Fisher played in Millwall's first Wembley appearance, in
April 1945 when he was only 19, and put in a sound performance.

After the wGeorge Fisherar he developed into a reliable left-back and also played at
outside-left when needed. He was also a very good
cricketer, playing for West Kent Wanderers, but he
turned down a career in first-class cricket to concentrate
on soccer. He played for London FA v The Army in
October 1949. In November 1954, Fisher was transferred
to Second Division Fulham, but made only eight League
appearances for the Cottagers before joining Colchester United in September 1955. He stayed with the Essex
club for five seasons, playing in 164 Third Division South matches. In the
1970s he did some scouting for The Lions.
